Effect of stem growth

These leaflets were both growing in partial sun. The one on the left is representative of the end leaflets growing on mature stems, stems that are gray and growing slowly. The leaflet on the right is typical of end leaflets on rapidly growing stems, stems that are Manzanita-bark red and have a side branch growing at each node.
